Islamic wear has an extremely fascinating history. In the ancient times, Islamic garments for both genders used to look almost the same. Women used to wear a burqua which is a long flowing garment (usually it was black in color) with a head scarf. The garment would cover the entire body including the face and only the eyes would be visible. The men wore similar looking clothes without covering their face.

However, with the passage of time, islamic wear has undergone a lot of changes. Modifications in their culture and community have had a great impact on their clothes too. Fashion designers have changed the overall look and appearance of the garments so that the clothes are no longer plain and boring, but they are stylish and classy.

Women now prefer to wear jilbabs and hijabs instead of their traditional attire, burqua. To give it a contemporary look, designers have included various types of embroidery, patterns, and motifs in the clothes. Designing for Muslims is a challenge as they don't wear very fancy outfits. Their garments are designed on simple lines with subtle styling.

The types of Islamic wear today are:

1. Jilbab - It is a robe that is worn to cover the entire body except face, head, hands, and feet.
2. Abaya - A flowing and loose garment that is accompanied by a veil to cover the bottom of the face. Gloves are worn to cover the hands.
3. Chador and Hijab - They are both head coverings used by women.
4. Bisht and Kaftan - Muslim men usually wear these garments.
5. Niqab - This is a veil that is used to cover the face leaving the eyes.
6. Keffiyeh - It can also be defined as a "head scarf for men." As is evident, this headgear is used by men.
7. Boshiya - This is the most conservative garment by far as it completely covers the body including the face of the wearer.
